Instruction: In this section, 2 situations in classroom teaching are provided. In each situation there is a problem. Firstly, identify the problem; secondly, provide your own solution according to communicative language teaching principles and explain in detail. The word limit for the elaboration is 50-70 words.
Situation 1
This is a speaking class in the middle of the semester. The teacher asks a question to class and a number of hands go up. “The boy in glasses, would you please tell us what you think?” the teacher points to a boy in the corner. Two boys in glasses, sitting not far apart and both with their hands up, look at each other in confusion. “I mean you, the boy in white, please,” the teacher adds.
Situation 2
At the end of a listening class, the teacher gives the students an opportunity to speak freely and exchange their ideas about the listening topic. As the students are talking in groups, the teacher walks around and keeps correcting their language errors to make sure that they use the proper forms to express themselves. She feels that this will help the students improve their oral skills.
